I bought this for a friend whose laptop wifi modem stopped working. This was an easy and inexpensive solution to that problem. This device was a breeze to install and it works beautifully. She has the same speed and reliability that she had with her wifi internal modem.

I will update this review should the device stop malfunction in any way. We have only been using it for over 2 weeks and sometimes time tells a different tale.

I plugged it into my Windows XP SP3, ran the included disk to install ONLY the driver, and it picked up my wireless router right away. Speed is plenty fast enough for Netflix and other streaming video services, which is what I use that computer for. The device loads right up and connects immediately. Much better than the (more expensive) adapter it replaced.

I just got this adapter today and my initial reaction is a good one. The device gets great coverage and was extremely easy to install. Reception is much more reliable than I got with my previous ZyXEL and Linksys adapters. I’m very impressed with the quality I got for such a low price.

I am migrating a wireless network from b/g to n and needed an n-capable wireless adaptor for 3 laptops. Seeing the favorable reviews here on Amazon, I bought 3 of these. In each of the 3 cases (an old Dell w/ usb 1.1 port, an emachine, and a toshiba qosmio), the adapter installed readily and has worked flawlessly, The driver cd includes some drivers for other devices, so you need to check the model of your device and run the appropriate setup, but that was not a problem.

Downloaded the driver, from the included cd, for windows, connected the adapter, and a minute later I was online. I also noticed that there was a driver for linux users which is impressive. Also impressive is the range of the adapter. I am able to see four wifi setups versus two with my other adapter.

the product itself works great, but the cd it gives you is hard to figure out on windows xp. The software is outdated but if you go to their website [...] you can easily download the software from a computer with internet acces, put it on a thumbdrive and install it onto your computer. after that all you have to do is select connection and put in the password.

so, you get what you pay for a great product, but sorry software, still money well spent i think and i bought two

A warning: the radio comes with drivers for Windows and Linux, however they’re included on a mini cd (or pocket cd) which will not work with slot-loading drives (i.e. you need a tray).

This is a wonderful product. I purchased three and have them working with Windows XP and Xubuntu Linux. Getting it to work with XP was rather trivial. I believe I simply followed the directions on the included mini cd.

In Ubuntu, it was a little less painless, but not too bad. If you’re using Ubuntu (or any Ubuntu-based distro) 9.10 or above, possibly even older versions, you can get this to work without the need to install any new drivers. Simply add a line to your blacklist.conf.

    sudo pico /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

add the line “blacklist rt2800usb” (without quotes) on a new line, press Ctrl-O to save and Ctrl-X to exit. Restart and you’re golden.

For any other Linux distro, you’ll probably have to compile and install the drivers on the included mini-cd.

This adapter is one best things that I have ever purchased. It does exactly what you expect it to (gives you WI FI) and it is very easy to set up. In Windows 7 it finds the driver for the device ass soon as you plug it in. In Windows XP you have to use the CD but it just takes a minute to do so.
