I bought this to add wireless to an old desktop located on the second floor of our house and at the opposite end of the house from the wifi base.
The signal is received is “low” which is the same strength I get from my notebook and netbook. The signal does not seem to drop though so it works fine.
Upgraded from a pci card “g” to this usb plug in unit. Set up easily and gives a better signal than the pci card did with an external antenna above my desk.
This simple little device works exactly as advertised. We have two of them, one on a Windows XP machine, and the other on a Windows 7 machine, and they both are great performers that work flawlessly.
This is a great dongle, and has great range. It is in my PC in my office, when my router is on the completely other side of my house. It goes through 3 walls, at a distance of approx 50 feet. I don’t get perfect signal with it, but I get signal listed as “GOOD” at 108 Mbps, which is perfect for movie streaming, and playing online games (And I play ALOT of World of Warcraft!). This dongle should fit most peoples needs. The only downside is the software that comes with it. The software sucks, but you can use the default setup in Windows anyways, so don’t even install the software. Besides that, it a great dongle.
I got this for my desktop system because running a LAN cable from the router wasn’t feasible. The router is a trusty Linksys WRT54GL model using a g signal. I average between 3-4 bars at my computer’s current location, but in the previous location where I had it I couldn’t even get a signal. My laptop gets a full set of bars pretty much anywhere in the room. I would have thought a dedicated wireless adapter would get better reception than a laptop with a generic g-spec adapter.
Other than that I don’t get any drop outs, and it was incredibly easy to set up. It works well, but if range is an issue then you might want to look elsewhere.
Works without a bunch of hassles, plug and play, an excellent solution for systems without built-in cards. I keep one of these in my bag in case I have to work on an old wireless-less system. A good example of getting what you pay for. Asus stuff is usually never horrible and sometimes sublime, a favored brand in my book.

Easy to install and set up on an older Mac Mini running OSX 10.5.8. Had the wifi connection working within minutes of opening the box.
