I set this wireless router up for my non-techy parents around Thanksgiving. The setup was probably about half-an hour if you’re overly-thorough like me with wanting to check everything out. After the initial setup, the ‘rents have not had a bit of trouble connecting wirelessly. I noticed another review (and a comment) mention not being able to make changes to the settings. I didn’t experience any of their woes. However, I do remember logging in to the router not being very intuitive and I wonder if that could be causing the issues. I was able to change the default SSID, login password for the router, and setup WPA easily. I set everything up by connecting my laptop directly with an ethernet cord and going to the router’s IP address. I didn’t use the included software, so I have no idea how well that works. As far as speed goes, I can’t tell a difference between this cheapy router and my nice expensive one at home. My parents are only using it for browsing/email, and since they just upgraded from dial-up, they feel like they are flying.

    ***Update 01/20/09

I just wanted to state that my positive review of this product was not paid for, in light of Belkin’s recent pay for reviews scandal (65 cents not really worth my integrity). And my parents still haven’t had any problems with this router.

I was a little leery of this product reading the other reviews, but purchased it anyway because of the great price. I purchased it from Wal-Mart instead of Amazon, but thought I would leave a review here. This was extremely easy to set up and I experienced none of the problems others had in their reviews. The sticker on the bottom of my router box said Version 3. Installed this on a machine running Vista x64 and the CD installed perfectly. I’ve had no problems inputting a custom SSID and password and having it stick. I have a desktop computer, but both my iPod Touch 2G and Nintendo Wii correctly identify the router and password. Absolutely no issues. I recommend this to anyone looking for a router on the cheap. Getting 7.9 Mbps Download speeds via Speedtest.net on my iPod Touch using Road Runner 8.0.

Just purchased this modem from Wal-Mart for $29 (+tax). After reading the reviews here, I decided to try it out myself. Used the Non-routable IP address (192.168.2.1) to configure the router (since others here had suggested it), used the wired connection first. Then had the wireless up and running. Took about 15-20 minutes. Like any G router, the range is limited, but serves my purpose. Video streaming is excellent. Using WPA for Wireless Security. Was able to change the SSID (problem mentioned by another reviewer). Wired and Wireless working fine so far. Will update if things go bad or SSID disappears (mentioned by another reviewer).

Wired setup, is a breeze…just plug and play…after configuring the LAN using IP address.

The wireless setup is a bit more challenging…for a non-tech savy person like me, but after some trial and error things are sorted out.

Overall, very pleased with the buy. Excellent coverage. Ease of setup is the only drawback, however once done it is easy to use.

This was my first shot at setting up wireless at the house. I never needed it before with just a desktop, but after buying my Lenovo S10 netbook I wanted to experience the convenience of connecting from anywhere in the house. My Belkin G Router cost $30 and was probably the lowest cost unit on the shelves. The package and price give you the idea that this is a bottom-of-the-line model, so no attempt is made to convince you that you are getting more than a basic wireless router.

I used the installation CD on my desktop computer to do the set-up. The steps are quite simple and it doesn’t take very long. You can establish the name of your network, and then set up security by creating your password code. It has been running for several days and I haven’t had a problem any time I’ve attempted to connect via the netbook.

    Money well spent.

To make along story short. This router is the least expensive I could find. Set up was a breeze and it works great. Unless you are going to actually wirelessly network your computers it is more that fast enough. Even old wireless B was faster than cable.

Save some cash, buy this router.

I bought this router to work with my Comcast cable internet. I have had problems setting up routers with Comcast in the past, but I have had some success with Belkin in the past so I gave this router a chance. For the price, I figured if it works, that would be great. Well, I was able to get this router up and running within 10 minutes with the included installation CD. Not a single problem, and it was significantly easier than the last time I installed a router with a Comcast internet modem. I was very impressed and would recommend this router for anyone looking for a basic home wireless router without all the bells and whistles of a more expensive N router.

You may get the 2009 version, now called simply the “G Router”. It looks the same except for the lack of an external antenna and it sits flat on the surface, not vertical. I have it hooked up to 5 PC’s and a wired net printer and it has worked superbly in the week since installation. It replaced an older D-link DI-624M “Super G Mimo” router costing over $100 and it delivers the same signal strength in out 2000 sq ft home. Quite amazing for only $30

I can’t imagine how this could be made easier.

    1. Read the single page quick set-up guide

    2. Make appropriate connections in the order that the quick set-up guide recommends

    3. Insert set-up CD

    4. Name the network using the set-up CD

    5. Secure the network using the set-up CD

I was off and running wireless in 5 minutes! Not an exaggeration at all.

Every time I went home, I couldn’t use my laptop for my college work because I needed Windows and my mom had a Mac. After fighting with a Linksys which was terrible to try to set up, I returned it and got this Belkin after doing some more research. I am relatively tech saavy, but you don’t need it at all for setup of this router! Excellent and easy setup. Well worth the $30 to have internet access on my laptop.
