This item is awesome, it works nicely, very standard chip so Windows in general don’t have problems with it.

Very nice utility that shows all the details of connection (quality/speed etc).

Price: unbelievably low (even lower than a pci card!!! without the hassle to open the pc to install)

I had a little of fight to find the right drivers for Windows 7 64bit, but nothing too bad.

Getting the second one right now!

For $8 this thing does the job. Yes it gets hot, and no it won’t find every access point In a ten mile radius, but for an easy to set up and use connection to an access point within a reasonable distance, you can’t fo wrong for the price. If it frys in 6 months because of the heat then ill downgrade the rating, but for now it’s 5 stars, best bargain out there.

This high powered USB WiFi adapter seems to work fine the WiFi adapters receive is lower than the norm due to the internal antenna it has. All of my access points are 21dbm (130mW) or higher and have found this WiFi adapter will penetrate walls far better than other common low priced low powered adapters of the same size. The MAC number is Realtek of Taiwan. The first thing you should do if you purchase one is download the current drivers for RTL8187B the files on the little disk are 2 years old!.

Let me first start with the fact that this is not an RTL8187B device like Amazon, BlueProton’s website, and some of the reviewers say it is. It’s an RTL8187L device (it says it on the box) so when you go look for the drivers on http://www.realtek.com search for the RTL8187L driver.

Here are the steps to install it on WinVista (WinXP and Win7 are similar steps):

    1. Plug the device in a USB port.

    2. Download and unzip the driver files to your desktop or some place else.

    3. Go to Device Manager and find the device (it will have an exclamation mark and will say “RTL8187 Wireless”.

    4. Right click on the device and select “Update Driver”

    5. Select the option to look for the drivers on the hard drive.

    6. Point the browser to the folder that you unzipped the files and then to “8187_1313.0613_UI_1.00.002387-USBRTL8187″ inside that folder and select the folder for the operating system you’re installing (in my case that was VistaX86; x86 refers to the 32-bit operating system).

    7. Click OK and now it should have found the driver.

    8. If it says that the driver hasn’t been signed, simply click on Continue and the driver should now be installed.

    9. Now you can connect to your wireless network.

Anyway… now to rate the device. I’ve had it for a few hours only but so far it seems very stable. The speed is at 54Mbps and doesn’t fluctuate at all and it gets better range than my Linksys WUSB54G v1. There are a few walls between this adapter and my wireless access point. So far I like it a lot and for the price you can’t beat it. If there are any problems with it in the future, I’ll make sure to update this review.

This little wi-fi adapter installed automatically in 32-bit Vista SP2 with little fuss. The Windows wireless configuration made setup a breeze. The wireless signal strength is not as good as the dedicated adapter in my laptop, but it picks up most networks without any trouble. As other reviewers have commented, it does get warm during use (all of these USB devices seem to), but not terribly hot. For the price, it can’t be beat.

We purchased this unit around 2 months ago and it works flawlessly. It does not heat up, does not cause excess USB power drain, and provides great tranmission and reception. I highly recommend this product.

I have blown about 20 hours trying to get my other old WLAN PCI cards and USB adaptors configured with a new router. I did not want a used adapter off CL or EBY, so I bought this from AMAZON due to low price and good rating. Wow! Works better than all my other adaptors with the best range and stability. Used in rear USB port of computer in a closed cabinet in basement with router 1 floor away. 2 minutes to set up. Didn’t have any trouble with my WEP security. Documentation on included CD was good and read 1st, but since essentially plug and play I didn’t need help.

Product is easy to install and certainly worth the price asked. Although the plastic enclosure is lightweight, cost savings compensates for any aesthetic deficiency. The wifi is certainly “high gain”, as advertised. In short, item is well worth its price!

The Blue Proton Wireless Adaptor is a quailty product, well worth the price. No item is perfect though, and there is one minor downside. The wireless dongle is a little on the large side when compared to other wireless adapters or dongles, so it can get kind of cramped when fitting it in the USB port in the back of your computer, but it doesn’t really bother me. Besides that, the connection quality is good; I’m currently using it to connect a computer to the internet that is the farthest away from the wireless router in my home. 9 out of 10 rating.
