I bought this item based on the feedbacks. I’m an IT guy. The setup and configuration was extremely easy, I didn’t use the CD at all. I have my VOIP phone, Wii, 5 computers, wireless Epson ARTISON 800, netflix boxes all running at the same-time and using Wireless “G”. I’m rejoicing over the optimal performance. I’m a satisfied customer and extremely happy that I decided to make the purchase.
This product has eliminated the frequent disconnects I was having and my wife even commented on that the videos on youtube are no longer “stop and go”. I can talk on the phone, watch netflix, kids can play wii, and the wife can watch youtube movies at the same time. I highly recommend this product.
I had never heard of Buffalo before. I needed a new router nad found out this on Amazon at a very good price compared to other with the same characteristics,so I decided to try it. The installation was fairly easy, great speed and reliability: I have been using it for 2 weeks now and never had to reset the router.
This is by far the best, fastest, most reliable and most powerfull wireless router I have ever used at home. I’ve had Belkin and numerous Netgear’s in the past and none of them compare to the speed, ease of us or signal strenght of this Buffalo technology wireless router. I was a little worried after reading some of the other review about how hard this device would be to get set up right. I am not sure what others are doing to over complicate things but I had this thing set up with two hard wired computers, two wireless laptops and a color laser printer connected to it in less that 30 minutes with full encryption and running flawlessly ever since. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!!!!
I figured I’d write a review just to state that the DD-WRT firmware is not installed as the default firmware yet (I bought it on August 3rd). The router is superb and it’s extremely easy to upgrade the firmware to the Buffalo-branded DD-WRT. All you need to do is visit the buffalo site, find the router, and it’s listed plainly in the downloads for the router.
EDIT: I ordered another and as of August 24th 2010, these now ship with DD-WRT pre-installed.
After tons of research, I bought this router to replace my Linksys g that dropped 4-6 times a day. I took this out of the box, plugged it in per the instructions and it bascially installed itself securely. It didn’t at first recognize my wired desktop but then it ran some diagnostic and fixed itself. It was uncanny, actually.
It’s been running for two days and so far hasn’t dropped once. I’m running mostly g and have a combination of laptops, Playstation, Wii, netbook, I-pods and Roku sucking up the signal–10 devices in all including my desktop. Everyone in the house reports better speed and reliability. So far it’s all good and I am very impressed. Had I known it would be such an improvement and so easy, I would have purchased this router MUCH sooner.
The only small snafu was that one of the laptops (Dell) required a pin to log onto the secure network. I went online and found the pin # under the Wireless tab and it worked.
Reliable, 3 floor house, wireless all covered. the range and speed is excellent and cover all the corners. Affordable.
Cons
None.
Summary
The setup is easy. Good Signal. Good price. Highly recommend. Great warranty. I have tried d-link DIR-615 and linksys wrt110n routers, they are rubbish. I would buy and recommend Buffalo whenever possible from now on.
Reminder: the one that I received does not have a separate antenna module.
This is a cool new router. Buffalo routers are long lasting. I had an old Buffalo router 5 years ago at a different place and it is still working.
I’m warning you right now, this router took a long long time to set up compared to your standard router, BUT it was worth it. In order to get why I love this router I have to explain why I hate all the ones I got before, but if you are looking at this review for a quick summery then here are the pros and cons.
Pros
-it’s fast, about just as fast as if my computer was directly connected to the modem.
-It’s range is dramatically better than any other router
-it’s small
-sexy
-Many many customizable options
-It’s cheap but great quality
cons
-Set up took me about two hours or more.
-Doesn’t show LAN ports in use on the front
Okay now for the full review.
I STARTED out getting a Netgear n300 wireless router. At first it started out great but then I noticed with our 20mps some days we would get a full 18-20mps and the next we would get 2 maybe 3 mbs.
I found I could only get good speeds on the Netgear if I changed channels 3 times a day. It got old real fast. I returned it and got a Cisco Valet. It was even worse! I tried all channels and the max I got was 3mps. Not only that the range was terrible. My friend finally recommended Buffalo routers so I went and looked them up. Looking at them I thought they would be starting at at least $100 or so but I was shocked when I got on Amazon and found out they were $30-$90. I decided to get one of the best Ones they offered. The result was the product I am now reviewing and it is the best of the best. The router arrived on time and I took it out and was surprised on how small it was. Mainly because all the shots of the routers was from the bottom up making them look huge. Not complain because I love the size since it blends in.
Now here is what almost made me change this review from a 5 to a 4. The set up took FOREVER. I plugged it in an looked at my wifi and was surprised to discover I could not tell what the network name was. . . This is because The router comes with itself already password Protected and the name was not “Buffalo router” but something like co2034521. . .
Once I set up my log in by connecting the router to my laptop with a LAN cable I was staring at a large amount of options…I kept going to [...] and checking speeds but they were really low. Like REALLY low. I kept trying all kinds of options. I tried to do the basic setup option but it wouldn’t let me get past the first option. I decided not to use Chrome and try using I.E instead. The setup then worked and I was able to wirelessly connect to the router.
I then went and checked the antennas again and found they were not fully screwed in. Things still weren’t working so I plugged in their LAN cable that came with the router to my modem. I didn’t use it before because it’s about 7 inches long. After the antennas and the LAN cable things got a bit even more faster. Lastly I went and changed the channel from auto to 7 because my computer software told me no one was using that channel. Speeds jumped to 20mps and has been steady.
For those of you with gaming consoles the router comes with a moderate NAT but does have port-forwarding. I have yet to try it but it does have it.
This router has the most options out of ANY router I have ever seen. It’s a little too much but for a techy it works.
This in general is just an amazing router and I would recommend it to anyone looking for speed, quality, and a strong signal.
Small in size. (About 5.6 x 5 x 0.9 inches not counting antenna or stand)
Color and smoothness matches my Playstation 3?
Cons:
Manual setup can be confusing if you don’t know what you are doing. (Lucky I’m good with technology)
The shape of the AC plug may or may not be a problem.
Very light-weight. May tip over if wires have high tension.
Does not have website logging tool like the WPN824.
I purchased this router/AP to replace my Netgear WPN824v2. The Netgear worked great with laptops and computers but constantly dropped connections with my Playstation 3. I bought this based on the reviews of its predecessor, the WHR-HP-G54 which has high ratings. I was not disappointed. I live in a 2 story apartment and the router is in the 2nd floor while my Playstation 3 is on the first. I used to get 80%-90% signal strength on my Playstation 3 with the WPN824 but it kept losing connection constantly or was as slow as dial-up. With the new Buffalo High Powered router it’s always at a constant 100% signal and never loses connection. I haven’t tested the distance yet but it goes through 1 floor of concrete and lead paint with 100% signal strength.
I cannot comment about the included computer software as I prefer to use manual setup. Compared to the WPN824 this router’s interface takes some time getting used to, but after 5 minutes I was up and running.
One feature that the WPN824 has that this doesn’t (or I can’t find it) is the ability to log websites that clients visit. I have a few wireless connections that I need to keep a check on.
Contrary to a previous review, this product does have WDS in its Wireless Config menu. It allows you to connect Master, Slave, and lower Slave.
I bought this router for my hotel. We were having issues with the wifi in some of the buildings and I decided to try and fix the problem my self. This router has many functions and can basically be molded to whatever you need it to do.
I chose this router after reading reviews on its reliability; it is more that reliable. You can buy larger/more powerful antennas and replace the smaller ones, which I suggest you do if you need to increase range.
Only one drawback is that the ethernet hub is not 10/100/1000. I went to the site and it never clearly said what speed the ethernet worked at.
We recently upgraded to Comcast Business Class cable internet. I did a speed test on wired connection and got around 25Mbs. On the wifi, it topped out at 15Mbs, that being on my G4 Powerbook. I havent tested a wireless n wifi card yet, but this router can definitely send out a good signal and speed.
I highly recommend this router for its price and high quality. I am never dealing with D-Link or Linksys again.
