Can be used as a router or a simple access point it has a switch for operation mode.
You can tweak almost everything in this router, it has a lot of options. I don’t know for sure but seems you can install DD-WRT (Linux Based Firmware). I’m happy with it, as i have total control over the settings.
Be adviced, at the first time connection, you just have to wait at least 5 minutes to be able to use Internet (if it is connected to a DSL modem or Cable Modem), as it seems that it has to setup everything.
One thing to note, is that the cable provided with the router is only for the PC that will setup the router (don’t know if it is crossover or rollover, haven’t checked, but i had trouble when connecting it to the modem).

The router works great. Novice computer people be careful before you buy. The included software is not compatable with Windows 7. If you have the skills to set it up without software, you can’t beat the router for the price.

This is a very good product. It was easy to install & works seamlessly. I would recomend this router to anyone that has te need for one. I have only one extra laptop now, but am expecting to add at least two more computers to the network. i’m sure that it will handle all the load. An excellent product. And received it promptly with no damage. Another good experience from Amazon!

A rock solid router after firmware is updated to DD-WRT and hence the 4-star. It is basically unusable with the stock firmware, especially with Comcast, where it could not find the DHCP server most of the time.

A little harder to set up and I had to update firmware to work properly.Once I did this and used the long encryption key It has worked flawlessly.
It has a stronger signal strength and further range than other routersI have used.

I was skeptical of this unit because it was on sale from a well known computer company on the internet and had no direct experience with this brand. What a surprise that “good things do come in small packages” when it comes to this item. The setup was so easy a child with ADHD could do it. I like the encryption setup and it can broadcast three SSIDs, one for each different encryption type. I have devices that only support WEP, so it works out great for me. This replaced a NetGear unit that would loose the wireless and would have to reboot it about once a week. It has been in place for about two months without one problem and the speed is faster than the NetGear it replaced and the range is great even without an external antenna. I am 100% happy with this unit and would recommend it to anyone needing a router or access point since it will perform either function.

I just received this router yesterday. I took a big chance because i did not know the brand. I alway hear about Linksys, D-link, Netgear, Belkin, and it’s real easy to compare amongst those, but Buffalo isn’t that bad. First of all, it has so many features to play with that the average user might not like if all they are looking for is just plug-n-play. This router can actually help you set up your network as if you were going to run a small business and other people would need to have limited connectivity to the internet. It’s a little hard to set up the router at first. I ran into a couple of gliches but it went through after all and when i was setting my wife’s laptop, it literally just took me 15 secs to do it.
I am not using a wireless-N receiver in my laptops, therefore i can honestly say i’m not using the most of this router. But for right now, it works for me.

I initially used the CD ROM to set up and it was not completely done…so I asked my coworker to help me set it up. He told me that there is a firmware that needs to be udpated (6.5 version) although I just bought it.
My house has a lot of corners of concrets but it is working out fairly well. I have it set up in the basement but mostly using the Internet upstairs. The reception (wi fi) is not excellent but it’s usually a very good.

I bought this one primarily for its range and speed it advertised. I had a netgear gateway G attached to the desktop in the room and had a media player and an xbox attached to the tv in the living room. i had a problem with the signal strenghth of the media player(Wester digital)which was getting only 2 or 3 bars in the signal.(maximum strength is 4 bars) When it has a 2 bars i had a problem accessing movie files in the desktop(home network), but when it reaches a 3 bar, it was fine. So I decided to buy this N-technology router in order to increase my signal strength to the maximum. however, after i connected everything properly, i was only able to to get 3 bars and nver goes to 4 bars. So when i called the customer service, the rep told me that signal strength or the range is not better with N. it is supposed to be better with speed. so i was kind of disappointed that it could not get the maximum signal strength but it stays in 3 bars and does not flunctuate. so i had to be okay with it. as far as the speed goes, I play xbox soccer game(PES 2010) online and did not notice any diffence in speed. but I’m sure it improved a bit but not as much as I can recognize. as for the setup, it was easy and done in a breeze. I had installed it without the CD. the manual says it could. so i dnon’t understand why some people had a problem with the setup. and customer service is quick to answer the call and they’re there 24/7.
