Expand the range of your wireless home network. The Wireless-G Range Expander is the easy way to increase the effective coverage of your wireless network. Unlike adding a traditional access point to your network to expand wireless coverage, the Wireless-G Range Expander does not need to be connected to the network by a data cable. Just put it within range of your main access point or wireless router. It is designed to "bounce" signals into those distant, reflective corners and hard-to-reach areas where wireless coverage is spotty and cabling is impractical. This "relay station" or "repeater" approach helps to build a wireless infrastructure and save wiring costs. The Wireless-G Range Expander works with most Wi-Fi certified access points and wireless routers. And it works in with both Wireless-G and Wireless-B devices so you'll get the benefits of increased coverage even with a mixed network. Installation is a snap with the Auto Configuration button. Just plug it in and press the button. The Expander is designed to find your wireless network and configure itself automatically.

I tried setting up the repeater using the Auto Configuration option after I disabled the security on my wireless network. It did not work. The installation CD was useless. I had to look up step-by-step instructions on Google to figure out how to manually set it up. After about an hour of struggle, it is up and running. In my office, I used to get no signal from my access point, but by installing this repeater near the edge of the original range, now I get 2 to 3 bars in my office, which is about 150′ away from the repeater. I’m considering purchasing a high power USB wifi adapter to increase the connection speed further.

I was prepared for a configuration nightmare after reading all of these comments about configuration on Amazon. I purchased a recertified unit from Amazon and after connecting all the wires etc to my router, i was disappointed to initially find that I was not able to easily determine the IP address assigned to the unit and could not get to the expander’s webpage for manual configuration.
Almost as if to simply say I tried it out, I inserted the setup CD that came with the device ( ver 3.0.0 ) and imagine my surprise at the fact that 2-3 simple steps later, the PC automatically ( via the router ) recognized the settings, asked me to input my security key and then configured the expander all by itself. I am very pleased that this was extremely easy to setup and so far appears to work perfectly.
I give it 5 of 5 stars both for ease of setup as well as functionality.

I was a bit reluctant to buy this product after some of the reviews, both refurbished and new. I could’t resist the price of the refurbished unit and I’m glad I did purchase it. It was fairly easy to set up both with the easy configuration and with the disk and instructions and it does provide the function it was supposed to and for me that was to extend my wireless to my garage area.

I used an ethernet cable to connect the range expander directed to my Linksys router during setup. Setup was quick and easy and, with the ethernet cable attached, I did not even have to disable the wireless security on my router. Once setup was complete, I disconnected the ethernet cable and moved the range expander about half way between the router and the farthest point I would like to receive a wireless signal (about 40′ in each direction) and it works great. I ran an internet speed test and the range expander only slows the internet connection speed a small amount. I was a little hesitant to order a refurbished unit, but it turns out that it works just fine. You can’t beat the price of a refurbished unit.

Ok… They say to not plug the cables before inserting the disc… They’re right but then they forget to tell you you have to plug them after you insert the disc… Then, it’s a piece of cake… Just follow the prompts.

Here is how to setup the WRE54G range extender:
1. With a bent paper clip hold the reset for 20 seconds while the unit is plugged into the wall outlet (leave it plugged into the electrical outlet)
2. Make sure that wireless security is off on your router (steps 1 and 2 can be reversed)
3. Next with the range extender plugged into a wall outlet, hold the config button on the side of the range extender until both blue lights are steady then release the button. If one of the blue lights turn red or both, hold the config button again until both lights are blue.
4. Once they are blue and steady, go to any computer on your network and type 192.168.1.240. A new page will appear just type admin on the second line and you will now be accessing the range extender.
5. Change the security to what ever you want and then click save and go into your router and change the security to match the range extender. That’s it!!
The range expander will keep the setting so you can move it to the best outlet location for the best extended range. I found if the range expander is too far from the router, it will not extend the signal too well. I have my wireless 160N router in the basement and the range expander in the kitchen. Both the router and the expander are set to mixed signal. When I’m close to the router, I’m on N band, but when I go out to my outside patio, I now get the signal from the expander and I’m connected at G band 54mbps (50 feet from the house)! If I unplug the expander, my outside signal drops to 10mbps. So that’s it hope this helps. Leave comments if you have any questions.

Linksys WRE54G is the best device in its category! Range is broad and its fast. Weaknes is that it does not have the N-mode. Setup is easy if the main default Gateway on the Wireless router is based on 192.168.0.1

Unit performs as advertised. Boosted my wifi signal by at least 50% in the farthest reaches of my home. Allowed me to use my Ipod Touch (wifi) in my backyard (something I couldn’t do before). Setup was easy as well.
