Product Description

The Wireless-N Gigabit Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex Gigabit Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G.

With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds far faster than standard Wireless-G. But unlike other speed-enhanced technologies, Wireless-N can dynamically enable this double-speed mode for Wireless-N devices, while still connecting to other wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the "good neighbor" mode ensures that the Router checks for other wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band.

To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass

I picked up 3 of these to use for my home network, due to the lack of being wired that is. Setup them up with dd-wrt & using them as wireless access points for my dvr’s, ps3, nas, slingbox, etc… Yes I’m a nut… The price has increased since I purchased, wireless N access points are hard to deny, still cheaper then gaming adapter (that is after you learn how to use dd-wrt). I’m still skeptical about the dual band N routers, the 5GHz band does not penetrate walls as well as the 2.4GHz band, though the 2.4GHz is much more crowded. Anyways, they’ve (yes all 3 I purchased) have been working great for over a month now.

I ordered two of these routers to set up as repeaters in my house. Both routers came very quickly and both routers were in really good condition when I received them. Neither router came with any documentation except for a piece of paper explaining the limited warranty, however, both routers still looked brand new. They do come with a set-up CD, however, the CD is not required if you are familiar with wireless LAN’s.

I’ve flashed both routers with DD-WRT which was very simple to do, and they are both working flawlessly. I didn’t even bother using them with the native firmware. DD-WRT all the way!

They do run HOT. I’ve stuck a pencil under the back end of the router on my desk to see if that helps the air circulate under it a bit better.

I highly recommend this router, especially flashed with DD-WRT firmware.

the packaging was good… didnt even bother to configure the stock firmware…. flashed it with dd-wrt based on the details on the dd-wrt wiki here [...] and it is running awesome…

    some tips… for heat issue.

underclock the router from the admin tab of dd-wrt.

reduce the signal power to 50mW (still very good signal)…

keep it on a flat surface not on carpet…

this is version 1 which is supported by dd-wrt… version 2 which is the latest is not supported, it will take probably couple of more months to get the support…

    ++ for having dd-wrt support…

other thoughts… shipping could have been a little faster if the product was handed to ups by the seller on friday… I ordered it on wednesday still it took them long time to hand it to ups…

It works just as it is supposed to. Very easy installation.

Basically, I installed it and forgot about it. No problems whatsoever.

Just one thing: check with your internet provider to make sure the router is compatible with them.

After reading other reviews with dissapointing results related to heat problems I mounted the unit verticaly not laying down and It runs a lot cooler. It’s fast, got great range and I like it!!

I purchased this router about two months ago and immediately flashed the firmware with DD-WRT standard. The router has functioned flawlessly since then, and I haven’t had to reset it once. The range is about the same as every other router I’ve owned. The only drawback to this router is its limited to the 2.4Ghz range, and that maxes out bandwidth at 130 Mbps, which is fine for my purposes.

My roommates and I use this router to move large television and movie files to a home server that is wired via gigabit ethernet to my HTPC. I consistently get between 3.5-3.75 MB per second if I’m in the same room as the router. Beyond that i really can’t rave enough about DD-WRT. It is incredibly stable and the best part is tracking data usage by month (which is also how my ISP tracks it, and i like to use as much of it as possible without pissing them off)

I got the refurbished version taking a leap of faith. So far it’s been doing just fine. Two days ago it dropped internet connectivity for a bit but I just reset it and it’s been fine since. Setup was as much of a hassle as any other router I’ve worked with…spent about 30-45 minutes on it making sure firmware was up to date and my modem was happy with it. I think it also had to do with getting my ethernet card to recognize it. Overall I’d say I’m quite content tho

I got this to replace an older refurbed Linksys router (WRT120) that I’ve been using for the last 2 years. The old one worked great until recently, when I had ti reset it every day or 2, but I just got a network attached storage system and the transfer speeds were horribly slow. I had heard that if I upgraded to a gigabit switch it would work better. I haven’t tried moving anything from my desktop, which is connected through the gigabit switch on this router, but there is a nominal speed increase between my MacBook and the Wireless N to the NAS attached to the switch.

    In short:

Intranetwork, there is a speed boost.

On the internet, there’s really no difference.

But, if you get gigabit internet by google when it comes out, there could be a huge difference between internet speeds on both gigabit vs 10/100, and between wireless G and wireless N.

I’ve long had only the best of luck with Linksys products and this item is no exception. Despite several negative reviews about this refurbished product, I went ahead and ordered it and it has worked flawlessly. Paired with a 20mbps Comcast cable connection, it FLIES!

Setup was about as easy as it gets – unpackage it, plug in the internet & power and login at 192.168.1.1 if you need to configure any settings like a static IP or whatever, and you’re good to go. Nothing to it. Order with confidence.

I use this as a switch/WAP in my network. You can’t beat the deal with its Gigabit ports and dd-wrt capability.
