I bought this to replace a Belkin router which was installed by my wireless broadband company. I read the reviews and this router seemed easy to set up…Not so! I spent several hours trying to get all the information input properly. The router worked but I could not connect to the internet. I finally had to call a service tech to program this router. It works great now that it is programmed properly.
This is a great item. It works just as described. Setup is best if you are a computer wiz, however, the tech support line is very capable and helpful. I can sit in my back yard now with my laptop, or iPhone, and access the web with a full signal. Excellent product, and a very reasonable price.
I get great reception over 100 yards from the unit. My only complaint is that the setup instructions require some thought about what they are asking you to enter. You have to specify names and passwords, and make some choices on security. But they just don’t come right out and say “this is what other WiFi units will see the router as”. And “this is the password required to connect”. It took several forward and backward attempts to get the security setup. If I knew the terms it might help. Just a few more sentences on the instructions would have helped.
Besides these questions, setup was a breeze. Having my laptop successfully communicate to it, I then used a WiFi phone to see how the rest of the world would see the connection. I am satisfied (but not convinced) that I made the right security choices.
Had confilcts with Belkin router in past..this hawking gives me a signal though 6 condo units!! over 6,000 sq feet.! No extender needed..easy, immediate set up..
I purchased this router after I bought the Hawking 300N Range extender. (I was so pleased with the range extender that I thought I would give the router a try.) Overall, this router is a very good ,easy to set up device. It has functioned well for me with no major issues. Keep in mind that this is a basic wireless N router with no frills. If you want something with a USB storage option, dual band capabilities,or fancy tracking software then this router is not for you. I will say that this router is a solid performer handling music and video downloads much smoother and faster than my previous Linksys WRT 610N (even with the dual band function offered by Linksys!!!) Range is about the same as with the 610N. For the money, I feel that this router gives you the best bang for your buck.
Con: Overseas support poor (fast call response but not very knowledgeable on advanced troubleshooting and at times hard to communicate with). Best to call company when you can get U.S. tech support.
Review: I have had D-Link and Linksys routers prior by far Hawking Technology in my opinion manufacturer’s the best router and range extender on the market. I currently use both the Hawking Router (HWRN2) and the Hawking Range Extender (HWREN1) I receive a strong signal inside a shed in my backyard over 70 feet away. Cost is inline or better than competition.
1. Both the Hawking HWRN2 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Router and Hawking HWREN1 range extender were easy to install provide adequate security.
2. The Hawking HWRN2 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Router over tripled my speeds over my previous Linksys router though both were using the N mode and tested on the same equipment and sites.
3. Had I purchased the Hawking HWRN2 first I would not have need a range extender as its range far exceeded that of my Linksys router.
4. Hawking told me you get one year parts and labor and after the warranty period you continue to get live tech support. Linksys told me that after one year you have to pay for support or you can use their free web site.
