    First off let me say the review is of the NetGear WGR614 V5 (old old old model–they are now on version 10!). We recently moved, and having given our more recent NetGear router to one of our kids who went off to college, we found ourselves fishing through boxes of old computer gear to get set up wirelessly again. We found this dinosaur and decided to see if it would work with Vista and/ Windows. Set up was quick an efficient and wonder of wonder IT WORKED! The problem was slow internet speeds — it was streaming youtube videos very poorly. So on a whim I contacted NetGear customer support–thinking that they would just have me trash the thing and go buy a new one. I spoke with Ray – we were on the phone for >45 minutes! He was incredibly patient and was able to completely resolve the slow speed problem-even though my router is more than 5 years old!!! (and obviously completely out of warranty!) Ray was able to reconfigure the router and update the firm ware and in effect saved me $50!! Apparently NetGear has a policy of one courtesy tech support call per customer – since I had never used this benefit, I was eligible. I am very grateful and will ONLY buy NetGear in the future. Thanks for the awesome customer service Ray! It is so rare these days. Lawrence, Kansas City, Missouri

    I bought this item as a Christmas gift for my in-laws, and after they went to bed on Christmas Eve, I set it up for them. From unwrapping the box to accessing the internet wirelessly took about 1o minutes. They have had no problems with the hardware, and love being wireless at home. I’m about to order another one for myself, to replace an unreliable older Linksys model. What better product review is there than a repeat customer?

    got to replace a d-link that forgot the ip address and impossible to fix. this netgear was super great! came with a disc and was super easy to set up. absolutely perfect, can program who can access the wifi, signal sometimes fluctuates but still works throughout the house. all in all awesome product.

    Router setup and config was simple, staight-forward and quick.

    Multiple options for wireless security was a pleasant surprise. Ability to use a passphrase which generated the wireless access code is always a plus.

    While signal strength seemed a bit low, the coverage is more than sufficient for our needs.

    Overal, a great buy.
