I used to be an avid Linksys user (why, I’m not sure because I’ve had so much bad luck with their pre-Cisco routers), but hadn’t been wireless in almost a year. I have a desktop and a non-used laptop, and the Linksys (G) was holding up traffic, so to say, with my connection. So it was faster running direct to the modem.

Just a week ago, I got a job with Eye-Fi Technical Support and was about ready to bring the Linksys G back up when I got the e-mail from Amazon that there were only 2 of these babies left, so I snatched one up. I’d never used an N, let alone a Netgear, before, so I was excited to see what it is capable of. At work, we have a B router that takes a bit of time to upload all of the pictures from my Eye-Fi card.

So, after unpacking and following the directions to a T, I was amazed! This was made for even the most amateur of networkers. I went thru the guided setup just so I could see what some of our customers are working with. I loved this ease. I set up the WPA2 and I was off and running.

Now, to see how it worked with the Eye-Fi Card. BEAUTIFUL!! The lights on the top (or on the side as I have mine set up) start going off *immediately* as soon as I take a picture. It picked up those photos in about 5 seconds, compared to work’s G router, that can take up to a minute. And, the range on an Eye-Fi is approximately 50 feet, I was easily 75 feet away through 2 thick (apartment) walls and it was able to read the card without a hitch.

    GREAT router! I am now a NetGear-Chick!!

I’d been using a wireless G router system with built in speed boost and was largely happy with download speeds. However, I had noticed several quirks in the way the system was set-up, ones that I was able to work around but never conquer. These problems interfered with file sharing on the network as well as using a printer across the network, a nuisance, surely. By setting up a new network, I was able to eliminate these problems. My download speeds have increased several fold, and coverage is uniformly superb. I am quite impressed with the Netgear Wireless-N Router. It is quite easy to recommend it.

I’m pretty computer literate, but networking-not good, so I followed the instructions to the letter and had no problem at all. I allowed myself a whole afternoon to get it going, as from experience nothing goes right the first, second or third times, but this was up and running in 15 minutes! I have two computers hooked in directly and one in another room that I set up to receive wireless, plus my laptop – all work well. I’m very happy with the product.

I am not a techie, so I followed the directions. It was a very smooth installation. Works great. I ordered it after dinner, and it was at my door the next morning.

I was previously using 2 Linksys Wireless routers – Linksys WRT55AG Dual-Band Wireless A+G Access Point + Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port 10/100 Switch & Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster – as I have A,B,G, and N devices in my environment. This allowed me to consolidate them into just this one device. Was a big Linksys fan for a while but recently bought a enterprise class switch from them that failed and replaced it with a NetGear that has been amazing. So when shopping for a Wireless solution to cover my new N devices I looked for a NetGear. I’m sold. I will be buying more NetGear from now on. I’m an IT Administrator so the setup for this device was quick and painless for me. Don’t know how the setup wizard works at all. I just pulled the device and power supply out and configured it. As far as range I get about the same range as my previous wireless devices. Around 100 feet through walls and floors I get about 1/4 signal. My N connections connects at 300Mbps. My G connections are right on 54Mbps. 300Mbps is great for streaming media over my LAN. Works great, great price. Range could be better, but it is not any worse than my previous solution, so it all works great for me.

I previously had a Verizon stamped modem router that Verizon initially recommended we buy. Now this was supposed to be the top of the line modem router that worked with Verizon DSL. However, after months of dropped signals and unreliable connections, I decided to take matters in my own hands – and my research began. I called to talk to Verizon with the intent of finding alternate (i.e. faster and more reliable hardware) and they again said that we should use one that they recommended.

We frequently have friends over who bring their laptops and connect to our wireless while they visit. At times, we have had up to 5 people there all surfing at the same time. To complicate that, I use my Xbox360 on Xbox Live and also needed a connection.

While this is a little more expensive than some other routers that are out there, I found the setup and speed of this router to me MUCH faster than what we previously had with the Verizon stamped router/modem combo.

While it took me two tries to set up the wireless network in my home, in less than 2 hours I had everything setup including the router itself, three laptops, and a desktop with a NETGEAR Super-G wireless adapter.

So, if you want a good router modem combo, compatible with Verizon DSL, and intent on multiple computers and online games connected at once – this is a great one to have.

As with any product we buy on the web, customer reviews are what convince us this is the product for me. Well; I read a few skeptical reviews on this product as well as good ones. Here’s mine. I depend on a wireless network for the many devices I own. I use my Xbox 360 for everything! The media center extender went from no bars of power to almost full power after switching from a linksys wireless N router. The G signal on my bedroom pc went up one bar. It used to lag when watching video from the downstairs pc, now, smooth sailing all the way. Watching a movie on xbox 360; no lag or waiting for the video to catch up. Setup on this router is a little tricky hence ALL of the bad reviews. But being the computer savvy person I am with a little knowledge this thing ROCKS!!! Look no further if your looking for a great router!! I live in a townhome with multiple networks in the area making the 5 ghz feature a blessing! Now my girlfriend doesn’t get angry everytime we watch a movie and the network lags; No longer a problem with this router!! What are you waiting for? This was the answer to my prayers; hope it does the same for you!!

This is a great dual band wireless router. It has a G antenna and an N antenna. It increases speed between two computers when one is using the N band and the other is using the G, because they don’t have to share the same one and divide the bandwidth. I’ve had this unit for about a year and I’m very happy with the range, reliability and ease of use. I highly recommend it!

I bought this originally to switch over to Wireless N from G but since everything I have uses wireless G I just recently decided to use this as a wireless bridge for my blu-ray player with my wireless old wireless G router.

You can flash this router and run DD-WRT and then use it as a wireless bridge. The actual process to do this takes about 15 to 20 mins but having never done this it took me over an hour but did work on the first try after following directions on here [...] and [...]. Its working great as a bridge and I haven’t had any issues with dropping the connection.

If your not computer savy this probably will take you some time to do but in retrospect it was not too difficult. The instructions are pretty long but if you follow them you will get it working.

You need to download two files from the DD-WRT website. The first is a .chk file and dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic.bin (there are a few versions but the mini is the one that is recomended). Both of these files can be found here: [...]. Install the .chk file first following the directions on the above links.

I got this router refurbished for under thirty dollars so its was way cheaper than buying the wireless dongle for the blue ray player and also allows multiple connections where the dongle would just support the bluray player.

The fact that you can set this up as a wireless bridge is a big plus. Without that it would probably still be in the box it came in.

Update: I have had this running with DD-WRT firmware for over 3 weeks now and it still has not once lost connectivity. Completely trouble free operation. Maybe running it with the netgear firmware causes others to have connectivity issues. Its been rock solid so far for me so if you get this and flash it with DD-WRT you should have good results. I paid under thirty for this as a refurb unit and it saved me $50 from not having to buy a wireless dongle for my blu-ray player. In addition it give me a second access point to hook up another wired PC and if the blu-ray player craps out I can use this with any other netflix ready player out there.
