I just got a new 802.11n router from Zyxel and it’s really good. I had a Dlink g router and was waiting for the “n” standard to come out, but everything is still draft n. Anyway, I finally caved in and Zyxel’s was the newest n router so I picked it up. Setup was simple. Just plug it in and connect it to your modem, turn your modem off and on, and it worked. You can configure it using your web browser, and then set up security and all that stuff. It’s easy. You can also set it up so it uses your bandwidth the way you want, like you can make online gaming more important than IPTV or whatever.
I bought this router to replace kinda buggy Linksys RangePlus-n Wireless Router WRT110 (WRT110 was freezing when I connected several devices into it) and I have to say this was an excellent choice. The router is easy to setup, has overall more features than WRT110, has very strong signal (much stronger than WRT110 – places where my iPhone did not detect WRT110, Zyxel had full strong signal) and power adapter is from 110V-250V which means that works in both US and with $4 adapter in Europe as well (this is probably features not many people need, but I did on my long trip to Europe).
I also like web based management for mobile devices (it looks very nice on iPhones) which auto-detects browser you use (no more pinching on iPhone).
I connected several laptops, 2 iPhones and AppleTV with no issues.
After using Zyxel’s X550N for a while, I’ll have to say it’s one of the best performing routers out there. It’s super fast and stable with no disconnections. Installation was a breeze; and thanks to the bandwidth management feature which allows seamless media stream and clear VoIP calls.
Had this one for couple months in our office and it works great.
feature rich, but for most part leave it on defaults.
ALso you will notice from reading on blogs that there is a very similar model in EU, but do not use that firmware. we were playing around with that and we completely toasted the router. Zyxel just released a new driver so when you get this router head there and download it.
Got it after my Linksys N broke down, i was amazed how the coverage and speed improved dramatically, in the first floor and the backyard, i used to have 2 bars, now i get 4 bars all the time, with much better transfer rate to my backup drive and between Pcs, i like the way i can manage the bandwidth on the ports, really cool device.
I bought this router to replace my old one. The new X550N is amazing! Let me explain: as my hubby and kid both got new laptops this year with “n” wireless, we had to refrain ourselves from watching video online with more than one computers. But with the new router, all three of us can surf and watch videos online at the same time. And the coverage is great, too. Because my husband likes to take his new laptop and a cup of coffee to the backyard. He said he can use his laptop with no problem there.
I am glad about our decision of buying the new router.
Bought this to replace a Linksys A+G router that was failing for the second time. The Zyzel router was a great price (with a rebate to boot!), was easy to install/set-up, and has been working like a charm. The range has been excellent, and has been better than any previous router we have, reaching throughout our entire two story house. My only complaint is that it is Draft N, and so I worry about compatibility with other N devices, but thus far it has not been a problem.
Recently we changed internet providers from one that required no router to one that does. A piece of technology like a router is important enough that I did some research ahead of time. I wanted the most features for the best price, of course. Most importantly, though, a router needs to be reliable.
Unfortunately, the problem with researching routers is that every one of them will have a fair sample of people who love it, some that think it is passable and a handful of seriously negative reviews, along the lines of: I can’t even use it as a footrest!
So it was with some trepidation that I chose this router for my setup.
Thankfully, after nearly a month of “always on” use I can say that the x550N has fulfilled my expectations. The setup was fairly straigthforward (though the complete newbie might need a hand), the reliability is great, the wireless coverage is superb (router is in the basement, but I can surf on my laptop, in a closed room, on our second story.) and surfing performance is great. I can even play xbox live now.
When my Linksys G wireless router gave up the ghost, I spent a considerable amount of time researching the best one to replace it. I had never heard of ZyXEL but I was impressed by the majority of the reviews. It’s rather difficult coming to a firm decision on a device such as this because every one has reviews that think it’s the best thing since sliced bread and reviews that utter stark warnings that this device will ruin your life.
The installation went very smoothly in all respects. With the Linksys I was never able to set up a wireless LAN but with the ZyXEL it was a piece of cake. One of the main things I was after in buying the ZyXEL was a longer range of coverage for wireless. Our office is a 3 storey brick building with a large addition on the main floor and a basement. Not only does this wireless router reach all corners of our office but also two houses away from the office. And the increase in internet speed of ‘n’ technology is dramatic.
It’s worked consistently for nearly a month now, and I’m hopeful for a nice long run.

Wireless N makes all the difference in the world, especially when it’s a product that’s certified for Xbox LIVE. The range and speed are superb.
